As my children are getting older they have wanted to become mom's little helper more and more. On days like Tech Free Tuesday when they have to use their imagination more to occupy their time, I have an increase of little helpers throughout my daily chore routine. I hesitate to make a list of chores by age since all children develop differently, so here is a generic list of toddler-friendly chores. Remember to be patient. They may not do exactly what you want how you want it, and you may have to repeat a chore, but they will learn as they keep trying. As a word of caution all chores should be done with supervision.
15 Toddler-friendly Chores
- Sorting and putting away the silverware or tupperware
- Putting away their clothes into the correct drawers
- Putting toys and books away
- Helping shoes find their homes
- Closing the doors behind them or closing the cupboards
- Pushing in the racks and closing the dishwasher door
- Taking their dirty laundry to a laundry basket
- Feeding the dog...or cat, hamster, fish, etc.
- Taking small, non-messy items to the garbage
- Wiping off the table, high chair, or chairs
- Helping vacuum or sweep (definitely be the lead on this)
- Turning off the lights
- Putting their {plastic} dishes in the sink
- "Making" their bed-- for us this means all pillows, animals, and blankets are just on the bed
- Sorting or bagging up the recycling
