Kiley's Purple Hat

This week we have a unique feature and that is that we are featuring a book called Kiley's Purple Hat that is currently in a Kickstarter campaign to be published.

This project is international with the author in Maryland, the illustrator is in Uruguay, and some of the partners are in Pennsylvania and California! They have spent many hours on the phone and Skype trying to complete and promote their book and project that ends now in just 11 days. As a team they have published children's books on the iPad and over 20 novels from romance to mystery to poetry. However, this is the first time that author Jaxon Barnes is being introduced to a large audience...how exciting!

Kiley's Purple Hat is a book about a young girl who takes a creative journey with her mother. The pictures are bright and colorful and the story is heartwarming. There are several unique things about this book. First is the content. There are few books that are just about a mother-daughter experience like this one as well as stories that feature girls of color. Another unique thing is the illustrations. They are done in such a vibrant manner and it really makes you get a feel for the textures and colors that Kiley was experiencing on her journey to the fabric store with her mom. The last thing is the book itself. It is handcrafted and has a fabric cover with hand sewn binding which sets it apart from other books. I like that you are reading a story about an artistic journey while experiencing one yourself as you read; the colors and textures are magnificent!

If you haven't had a chance to check out their Kickstarter page, definitely go take a look. They have giveaways at almost every donation tier, including digital copies of the book, t-shirts, physical copies of the book, letters from Kiley, and more. Their campaign ends in 11 days from today which would be July 1, 2014.
